Sutton Elections 2026: Reform UK Stands in All Wards

Sutton Council Elections 2026: A Historic Contest with Reform UK's Full Slate

Sutton Council has officially released the final list of 228 candidates who will compete in the upcoming local elections on May 7, 2026. All 55 council seats across the borough's 20 wards are set to be contested, marking a significant political event in South London.

Major Parties and Reform UK's Expanded Presence

Candidates from all major political parties will stand across Sutton, with Reform UK making a notable impact by fielding 51 candidates in every ward for the first time. This move signals the party's growing ambition to challenge established political forces in the area.

The Liberal Democrats, who have controlled Sutton Council continuously since 1986, face a robust challenge from the Conservative opposition, which currently holds 20 seats. Sutton Labour, which secured three seats in 2022, aims to strengthen its presence after the mid-term resignation of councillor Sheila Berry, leaving them with just two representatives in Hackbridge.

Independent Candidates and Notable Changes

The number of independent candidates has also increased, adding diversity to the electoral landscape. Former Sutton Conservative leader Tim Crowley is now standing alongside the Beddington Independent Residents, while ex-Liberal Democrat Patrick Ogbonna, following a public departure from the party, will contest The Wrythe ward as an independent.
