A young mother is fighting for her life in hospital after being shot multiple times through the front door of her home in a shocking Christmas Eve attack in south London. Her one-year-old son was inside the property at the time but was miraculously unharmed.
Shocking Act of Violence in Family Home
The horrific incident occurred at an address on Cronin Street in Peckham, southeast London, late on the evening of Wednesday, December 24. According to the Metropolitan Police, two suspects unleashed a volley of seven gunshots directly through the woman's front door.
The victim, a woman in her 20s, was struck several times. Emergency services rushed her to a major trauma centre where she was admitted in a critical condition. She has required extensive treatment throughout the festive period and into the New Year and remains in hospital.
Police Hunt for Two Suspects
Detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command have launched a major investigation. They have confirmed that the two male suspects fled the scene on foot in the direction of Commercial Way.
Descriptions of the wanted men have been issued:
- Both were dressed in dark clothing.
- One suspect was wearing a grey hoodie and is believed to have been carrying the firearm.
- The second suspect was wearing a dark hoodie.
Detective Inspector Jordan Gardner, who is leading the investigation, stated: "This was a shocking act of violence, carried out at a family home where a young child was present. It is vital we identify those responsible and ensure justice for the victim."
Appeal for Witnesses After Festive Attack
Officers are urgently appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Cronin Street, Commercial Way, or Moody Road between 9.45pm and 11.45pm on December 24.
"We know there will be people who saw or heard something that could help us," said DI Gardner. "Even if the information seems minor, please come forward. Your detail could be crucial."
The investigation continues as police work to piece together the events leading up to the shooting and establish a motive for the brutal attack.
