Parents' tribute to 'murdered' Huddersfield mum-of-six

The grieving parents of a mother-of-six who died from serious injuries in Huddersfield have urged people to cherish their loved ones, as a community fundraiser for her children nears £18,000.

Tragic Incident in Almondbury

Lisa Smith, aged 33, sustained what police described as 'very serious head injuries' at an address in the Almondbury area of Huddersfield. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Friday, December 19, 2025.

She was rushed to hospital but sadly passed away on the Sunday evening. Gareth Brook, 34, was previously charged with wounding with intent in connection with the event, which authorities are now treating as a suspected murder.

Brook is next scheduled to appear at Leeds Crown Court on January 16, 2026. West Yorkshire Police have stated that the ongoing legal proceedings will reflect the findings of a forensic post-mortem examination.

Community Rallies with Overwhelming Support

In the wake of the tragedy, the local community and well-wishers have mobilised to support the family Lisa left behind. A dedicated GoFundMe page has raised nearly £18,000 to aid her six children.

Furthermore, a special fundraising day was held at Almondbury Cricket Club to gather additional support for the family during the festive period.

In a heartfelt message on the fundraising page, Lisa's mum and dad expressed their profound gratitude. They wrote: 'We want to thank every single one of you from the bottom of our hearts. The love, kindness, and generosity you’ve shown our family during the darkest time of our lives has meant more than words can ever say.'

A Lasting Legacy of Love and Help

In a separate statement released through the police, the family shared a favourite photo of Lisa and revealed that her organs had been donated, offering hope to other families.

'She did what she does best by helping other families have a special Christmas until she fell fast asleep,' the statement said. It continued, expressing immense gratitude for the community's efforts in making Christmas special for her 'six beautiful babies'.

As the investigation continues, Lisa's parents concluded their tribute with a poignant message for the public: 'As Christmas approaches, we want to remind everyone to hold your loved ones close. Make the memories. Say the things you want to say. Appreciate every moment, because life can change in a heartbeat.'
