Only 40% of Gamers Think £100 GTA 6 Price Tag Is Fair, Survey Finds
Only 40% of Gamers Think £100 GTA 6 Price Is Fair

A recent survey of 2,000 gamers in the United Kingdom and the United States indicates that opinions are sharply divided over whether the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 will justify a higher-than-standard price tag. For years, speculation has persisted that Rockstar Games' next blockbuster will cost more than the current £70/$70 benchmark for triple-A titles. Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar, has acknowledged these rumors, which have been fueled by investors and analysts, but the most recent official statement described the price as 'reasonable.'

Survey Results on Pricing

According to a study commissioned by FirstLook, a research platform utilized by major publishers including EA and Krafton, 59% of respondents believe that £100 for GTA 6 is excessively expensive. In contrast, 40% consider it a fair price. Remarkably, 1%—approximately 20 individuals—think the game is underpriced at that level.

The survey also revealed that 94% of participants intend to purchase GTA 6, and 29% expect to reduce spending on other companies' games during the launch window this November. This trend explains why other publishers are hesitant to release their titles concurrently.

Gamer Expectations and Market Impact

The 2,000 respondents were classified as regular gamers, playing multiple times per month. Casual gamers might hold different views on the £100 price point, though infrequent buyers may perceive it as an acceptable one-time expense. On average, respondents anticipated the game's price to be £76/$78. Recently, some sources have speculated that Take-Two might compromise by setting the price at £80/$80, a figure already reached by Mario Kart World—though that title is cheaper digitally and effectively half price when bundled with a console.

Future Price Announcements

With no official confirmation, all stakeholders can only await the final price. One possibility is that the standard edition will remain at £70, while collector's editions could carry significantly higher costs. The financial success of GTA 5 has largely stemmed from GTA Online and its microtransactions, suggesting that a lower price for GTA 6 could attract more players into the ecosystem, though such a move appears unlikely.

Beyond pricing, fans eagerly anticipate the release of Trailer 3, as Rockstar has yet to showcase substantial gameplay footage. Many hope the trailer will debut around Take-Two's May 21 earnings call, but no guarantees exist. A premiere in the coming weeks seems plausible, as pre-orders would likely commence shortly thereafter, finally revealing the game's price.
