Nottingham Triple Killer's Prior Warehouse Attack Detailed in Inquiry

An ongoing inquiry in London has revealed that Valdo Calocane, the perpetrator of the Nottingham stabbings, attacked two colleagues in a Derby warehouse just one month before the fatal incidents. Calocane, who has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, punched a male coworker in the face and pushed over a female colleague, injuring her leg, during the assault on May 5, 2023.

Violent Incident at Arvato Logistics Warehouse

The inquiry heard testimony from a training coordinator identified only as Louisa, who described hearing a scream and finding the victims on the floor. She stated that Calocane, referred to as VC, was silent and focused on the male victim during the confrontation. Another worker, Volodimir, reported seeing a Stanley-type knife on the floor after the attack, which he kicked away, noting that such tools were prohibited in the workplace. He described the event as "very violent" and recounted Calocane claiming he had been pushed and lost his glasses.

History of Aggressive Behavior

This warehouse incident adds to a pattern of prior violent acts by Calocane. The inquiry has previously detailed how he put a flatmate in a headlock in January 2022 and assaulted a police officer in September 2021. The operations manager at the time, Matthew, told the inquiry that Calocane appeared mentally unstable after the warehouse attack, prompting him to inform the police about his concerns.

Legal Proceedings and Current Status

Valdo Calocane is currently detained indefinitely in a high-security hospital after receiving a hospital order at Nottingham Crown Court in January 2024. Prosecutors accepted his plea of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility for the killings of University of Nottingham undergraduates Barnaby Webber and Grace O'Malley-Kumar, both 19, and grandfather Ian Coates, 65, in June 2023. The inquiry continues to examine the events leading up to these tragic stabbings.
