The mother of nine-year-old Minnie Merriman has left a heart-wrenching tribute at the site where her daughter was fatally injured, writing that they are 'connected eternally'. The poignant message was among several floral tributes and personal items placed at the Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath, Scotland, where Minnie was allegedly killed on Monday morning during a family camping holiday.
Tribute at the scene
Minnie's mother, who has not been named, wrote: 'To my darling Minnie Moo. Wherever you are, we're still connected eternally. I love you my girl. Mammy will carry your strength always.' Other notes left at the scene included 'To Min Min, I love you baby' and 'My hero, Minnie Moo'. A sketchbook, a plush strawberry, and a Hello Kitty doll were also left in her memory.
The schoolgirl, from West Yorkshire, was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee after suffering fatal injuries but could not be saved. Three other people were also taken to hospital following the incident, which occurred at the industrial estate.
Charges and court appearance
Christopher Rice, a 35-year-old man, has been charged with murder and appeared before Forfar Sheriff Court on Wednesday, where he made no plea. It is understood that Rice and Minnie were known to each other. Following the court appearance, he was remanded in custody and is due to appear in court again next week.
In a statement released through Police Scotland, Minnie's family expressed their devastation: 'We are devastated with the loss of our beloved, absolutely incredible, beautiful and brave Minnie Moo. Our family asks that our privacy is respected at this extremely difficult time.'

Detective Inspector Mike Ness of the Major Investigation Team said: 'Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by these events, especially Minnie's family. A police presence will remain in the area while our enquiries continue. Anyone with any concerns, or information, should approach these officers or contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0008 of Monday, 3 August 2026.'
The incident has shocked the local community and beyond. Police have maintained a presence in the area as investigations continue. The family has requested privacy as they mourn their loss.
