A man is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted by a group of around four men in central London, police said. The victim, aged in his 40s, was knocked to the ground and assaulted near the Southbank Centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.

No arrests have been made. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Around 00:15hrs on Sunday, June 14, officers attended Belvedere Road, South Bank, following reports of an assault.

“The victim, aged in his 40s, was assaulted by a group of around four men, who knocked him to the ground and assaulted him.

“He was taken to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

“No arrests have been made at this stage, and officers are making urgent inquiries.”
