North London Resident Admits Operating Dark Web Child Abuse Forums

A thirty-six-year-old man from North London has pleaded guilty to running dark web forums dedicated to sharing images and videos of child sexual abuse from his flat near Alexandra Park. Matthew Slate appeared at Wood Green Crown Court on Thursday, where he admitted to eleven criminal charges related to his activities as a moderator on illicit online platforms.

Extensive Collection of Illegal Material Uncovered

The court heard that Slate amassed approximately fifty-seven thousand illegal images of children, with more than ten thousand falling into the most serious category A classification of abuse material. Between April 2024 and February 2025, Slate served as a global moderator under the username Loudechoes for a dark web site called Olympus, which prosecutors stated was established exclusively for sharing child sexual abuse content.

Additionally, between July 2023 and June 2024, Slate operated as a re-up doctor on another dark web platform named Neverland, where similar abusive material was distributed. The defendant also pleaded guilty to distributing over two thousand indecent images of children, some categorized as the most severe type, between July 2023 and August 2025.

Court Proceedings and Remand Decision

Slate accepted a further charge of possessing fifty-five prohibited images of children on March 15, 2025. However, he pleaded not guilty to two counts of participating in activities of an organized crime group and one count of facilitating the sexual exploitation of children. Prosecutor Corinne Bramwell informed the court that proceeding with these charges was not in the public interest, requesting they be left on file.

Defense barrister Adrian Langdale KC applied for Slate to be remanded in custody, citing previous media coverage that had resulted in threats against the defendant. Her Honour Judge Kaul KC granted the application, stating she understood the reasons and would remand Slate accordingly.

Sentencing Scheduled for May

The defendant, who resides on the outskirts of Alexandra Park in North London, will return to court for sentencing on May 8. This case highlights ongoing concerns about dark web platforms facilitating child exploitation and the challenges law enforcement faces in combating such digital crimes. The extensive collection of abusive material discovered underscores the scale of illegal activity occurring through these hidden online networks.
