Brody Michaelis Falls Back Into Crime on Coronation Street
Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) is set to confront his dark side on Coronation Street next week as he commits a shocking kidnapping for his new boss, Idris Nazir (Junade Khan). The young man, who has been trying to turn his life around under the care of foster parents Sally and Tim Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor and Joe Duttine), finds himself drawn back into criminal activity.
Brody first arrived on the cobbles as a manipulative and violent resident of the young offender's institute where Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) was held. Using a combination of scheming and physical force, he maintained control over others. However, viewers learned that Brody was a product of his environment. His mother Lou (Farrel Hegarty) had a hidden heart beneath her viciousness, while his alleged father Mick (Joe Layton) was thoroughly corrupt. When Brody discovered his real father was Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), he spiraled further out of control.
Mick Killed Craig Tinker, Lou Attacked Gary Windass
Mick ended up with a long prison sentence after killing beloved police officer Craig Tinker (Colson Smith), and later broke out before being recaptured. Lou also faced justice after assaulting local bad lad Gary Windass (Mikey North). With strained relationships with both parents, Brody and his sisters Joanie and Shanice (Savanna Pennington and Molly Kilduff) were left alone.
The Metcalfes stepped in, fostering all three Michaelis children and providing a stable, loving, crime-free home. While moving in with Tim and Sally didn't instantly soften all of Brody's rough edges — he and Dylan were too eager to join Carl Webster's (Jonathan Howard) car theft racket — the boy has become much more pleasant than ever before. Until now.
Brody Impressed by Charismatic Newcomer Idris Nazir
Brody was incredibly impressed by the flashy arrival of charismatic newcomer Idris Nazir, who immediately began grooming him as an apprentice. Brody is not blind to Idris's darker side, having witnessed him walling up poor Damo (Jake Parry), who owed him money. Despite this, Brody remains eager to please his new boss.
Next week, Idris encounters trouble when his tenant Abi Webster (Sally Carman-Duttine) takes her young son to the hospital due to extensive mould in the flat. As Idris laments the situation to Brody, they are spotted by Abi herself. Later, Abi tells a horrified Sally that she saw Brody bundling a man into a car. She pales further when he hands her some cash for housekeeping.
What Has Idris Gotten Brody Involved In?
The kidnapping marks a major turning point for Brody, who had been making genuine progress. According to sources, Brody's loyalty to Idris leads him down a dangerous path, and the consequences could be severe. Fans are left wondering whether Brody can escape Idris's grip or if he is doomed to repeat his past mistakes.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings on ITV.
