Police Launch CCTV Appeal in Battersea Murder Investigation
Detectives are intensifying their investigation into the fatal stabbing of a 25-year-old man in Battersea, South London, with a critical appeal for a key potential witness. The Metropolitan Police have released images of a woman believed to have been with Tai Folkes immediately before the attack on March 2, urging her to come forward as she may hold vital information.
Details of the Tragic Incident
Officers were called to Thessaly Road, opposite the iconic Battersea Power Station, at 6.12pm following reports of an armed altercation involving a group of men. Tai Folkes was treated at the scene by paramedics and rushed to hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with a large police cordon spanning Thessaly Road and Battersea Park Road remaining in place for days as forensic teams meticulously gathered evidence.
Forensics experts were observed scouring the area around The Duchess Belle pub and inspecting under parked vehicles, with particular focus on the Savona Estate. Blue-and-white tape sealed off the forecourt and gardens of several properties, highlighting the severity of the investigation.
Witness Appeal and Arrests Made
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie emphasized the importance of locating the woman in the released images, stating, "We believe this woman was with Tai in his vehicle immediately before the attack. She could hold crucial information about why he went to the location where he tragically lost his life." He clarified that she is not suspected of any offence but is considered a key witness, possibly not local to the area.
In connection with the case, two men aged 28 and 38 were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on the same day as the stabbing and have since been bailed. Additionally, a 21-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were arrested on March 5 on suspicion of assisting an offender and have also been bailed. The investigation remains active, with officers planning to return to the scene to speak with residents who may have witnessed suspicious activity.

Tai Folkes' family, supported by specialist officers, released a heartfelt tribute through the police force. They described him as a "much-loved son, brother, and friend", highlighting his caring nature, warmth, humour, and loyalty. In their statement, they expressed profound devastation, noting, "Tai had his whole future ahead of him, with dreams, plans and so much left to give.
