Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has revealed she received security warnings after former President Donald Trump publicly withdrew his support for her political career.
The Georgia representative stated on Saturday that private security firms had contacted her with warnings for her safety following Trump's Friday announcement that he was ending his endorsement.
Social Media Confrontation Escalates
In a post on X, Greene claimed that threats against her were being encouraged by the most powerful man in the world, though she didn't mention Trump by name. She described the situation as being fuelled by the man she previously supported and helped get elected.
The congresswoman expressed serious concern, noting that aggressive rhetoric directed at her has historically led to death threats and multiple convictions of radicalised men. She emphasised that as a woman, she takes threats from men seriously.
Greene drew parallels between her current situation and the fear experienced by victims of Jeffrey Epstein, stating she now understands the pressure they must feel.
Trump's Furious Response
The public falling-out represents a significant rupture between two previously aligned political figures. Trump unleashed his anger on social media, calling Greene a disgrace to the Republican Party and referring to her as Wacky Marjorie.
The former president declared he would support a challenger against Greene in the next midterm elections if the right candidate emerges, signalling a complete break from his once-loyal supporter.
Policy Disagreements Come to Fore
The dispute has been simmering for months as Greene found herself opposing Trump on several key issues. The breakdown in their relationship stems from disagreements including:
- The release of Epstein-related documents
- US military aid to Israel
- Government shutdown procedures
- Foreign policy approaches
Trump accused Greene of moving to the far left and complained about receiving constant complaints from the congresswoman. He stated he could no longer tolerate daily calls from what he described as a ranting lunatic.
Greene defended her position, asserting she had supported Trump with significant time and personal financial resources, even when other Republicans abandoned him. She made clear that while she supported him politically, she doesn't worship or serve Donald Trump.
Broader Political Implications
This public rift highlights growing tensions within the Republican party as different factions emerge. Greene's recent comments on television programmes have surprised many observers, including her criticism of both political parties and calls for women to take greater leadership roles in steering the country.
The congresswoman described the Republican-controlled Congress as an embarrassment for being out of session for over a month and expressed frustration with what she called the pissing contest among male politicians in Washington DC.
As the Epstein files controversy continues to develop, with House Speaker Mike Johnson expected to hold a vote on releasing unclassified documents next week, Greene's position places her at odds with the Trump-aligned mainstream of her party.
The situation represents one of the most significant public fractures within the MAGA movement since its inception, raising questions about the future cohesion of Trump's political base as the next election cycle approaches.
