Five Face Murder Charges Following Petrol Station Tragedy

Five individuals have been charged with murder after a 23-year-old man died in a collision at a petrol station in County Durham. The incident, which police are treating as murder, occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, 15 January 2026.

Victim and Charges Detailed

The victim has been named by Durham Constabulary as Daniel Ambler. He was pronounced dead at the scene at the Asda Express service station in Seaham.

Following a murder investigation, three men and two teenagers have been charged. They are:

  • Barry Anderson, 51
  • Ashton Anderson, 19
  • Barry Logan Anderson, 18
  • Two 17-year-old boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons

All five have been charged with murder and violent disorder. They are scheduled to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court on Monday, 19 January 2026.

Police Reassure Public as Family Pays Tribute

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Woollett of Durham Constabulary sought to reassure the local community. He stated: "While there will be an increased police presence as the investigation continues, I can reassure the community of Seaham that we believe this was an isolated incident, and we have no information to suggest any wider risk to the public."

He added that the force's thoughts remain with Mr Ambler's family and friends.

In a heartfelt statement, Daniel Ambler's family described their devastation. They said: "Daniel was a much-loved son and brother, and his death will leave a huge hole in our hearts forever. He had a great sense of humour, was popular among friends, and was able to bring laughter to any situation. Our family is devastated, but we will remember Daniel for being the kind-hearted soul that he was."

Durham Constabulary continues to appeal for information and has asked anyone with dashcam footage or other details related to the incident to come forward.
