Man Drunk on Christmas Brandy Attacks Neighbour's House with Samurai Sword
Newly released doorbell footage has revealed the shocking moment a man, covered in blood and wielding a samurai sword, attempted to break down his neighbour's door in a drunken frenzy. The incident, which occurred in Belvedere, southeast London, has led to a one-year prison sentence for the perpetrator.
Chaotic Scene Captured on Video
Jan Dziedzic, 36, caused what the court described as 'mayhem' after consuming brandy while preparing a Christmas cake at his flat. The footage shows Dziedzic, a self-described Japanese culture enthusiast, at the door of a neighbour he barely knew, shouting obscenities and banging repeatedly with the sword. He was heard yelling, 'Come on... You piece of s***! Go f*** yourself!' before slamming a corridor door and fleeing the scene.
Judge Ruth Downing of Woolwich Crown Court expressed deep concern over Dziedzic's behaviour, stating she felt compelled to impose a prison term due to the alarming nature of the attack. 'You were covered in blood and, no doubt to your neighbours – decent human beings – this was an alarming sight,' she remarked. 'Your neighbour suffered genuine distress. Why should she have to go through that?'
Legal Consequences and Personal Regret
Dziedzic admitted to charges of affray, criminal damage, and possessing a bladed article in public. He told the court he had no memory of the incident on November 11 last year, attributing his actions to excessive alcohol consumption. Upon viewing the footage, he expressed mortification and appall at the chaos he caused.
The court heard that Dziedzic and his neighbour were only on 'speaking terms' prior to the attack, making the event even more distressing for the victim. Judge Downing urged Dziedzic to seek assistance upon his release to address the underlying issues that led to the mayhem.
Sentencing and Future Implications
Dziedzic was sentenced to one year in prison, with a requirement to serve at least six months before being eligible for release on licence. This case highlights the severe consequences of alcohol-fueled violence and the importance of community safety measures, such as doorbell cameras, in documenting criminal acts.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with excessive drinking and the need for support systems to prevent such occurrences in the future.
