Casualty spoilers for Saturday's (July 18) episode, now available on BBC iPlayer, have confirmed the fate of Dylan Keogh (William Beck) after a terrifying car crash. The episode airs on BBC One at 8:20pm.
Dylan's relapse and crash
Dylan had been struggling after discovering that colleague Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) had been sleeping with his son, Dr Matty Linlaker (Aron Julius). Earlier this month, Dylan relapsed, taking a drink at an event after a keynote speech. He later reported Stevie's mistake and affair to Clinical Lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix), nearly costing Stevie her career.
Flynn confirmed Stevie would be on reduced duties but retain her job, which angered Dylan and widened the rift with Matty, who witnessed his relapse. Stevie was horrified to learn Dylan had been drinking and couldn't locate him. Dylan was seen driving with a bottle by his side.
Visit to his father
In tonight's episode, Dylan visited his father Brian at a care home. Brian, suffering from the effects of years of drinking, did not recognize Dylan and said horrible things about him. Dylan rushed out, got back in his car, and drank from a clear bottle. He left Matty a voicemail, insisting he is not like his own dad and that he cares about him.
At the ED, Matty and Stevie grew concerned as they couldn't reach Dylan. They listened to the voicemail, which ended with a thunderous crash noise. Horrified, Stevie urged Matty to call back, but they saw colleagues gathered at reception as Clinical Nurse Manager Siobhan (Melanie Hill) received a call about a collision. Dylan was thought to have sustained serious spine, neck, and head injuries.
Dylan's survival
Matty was told by Flynn to sit out due to Dylan being his father, but he refused and joined colleagues as ambulances arrived. To their surprise, the injured man wasn't Dylan but someone wearing his coat. Dylan was in another ambulance, largely okay aside from a cut to his face. Fans had feared the worst, but this came as good news.
Flynn, tipped off by Stevie about Dylan's relapse, urged him to take a breathalyser test before assisting trauma patients. Dylan complied, and the test confirmed he had not been drinking.
Emotional resolution
Matty struggled when the patient initially thought to be Dylan went into cardiac arrest. Dylan and others urged him to stop compressions. Matty wanted to continue, and Dylan relented, but despite revival, the patient was not expected to survive. Dylan had to inform the family that the machine was keeping the man alive. Matty realized he should have listened to Dylan, who promised to overcome his addiction and be there for him. In emotional scenes, the father and son hugged, hinting at a possible proper relationship.
Casualty airs Saturday at 8:20pm on BBC One or streams from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
