Cain Dingle Makes Breakthrough with Moira After Arrest

Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) spent last night in a cell in Emmerdale, but something else hurt his pride more than getting arrested. The much-loved character had his all-important prostate cancer operation a few weeks ago, but has been struggling with the side effects of the surgery. One of the biggest challenges was having the catheter in place for two weeks. Cain absolutely hated the idea of being around people while he had this fitted, and even pretended to be in more pain than he actually was to try and stay in hospital for longer.

After getting the tube removed yesterday, Cain headed to the pub to enjoy a few drinks with Caleb Miligan (William Ash). In Cain's eyes, no longer having to manage life with the catheter was a sign that things were returning to normal for him. He got a bit carried away with the alcohol, which meant he endured a tipsy walk back home.

On his way, Cain was given a stark reminder that things really aren't the same as they used to be as he suddenly needed to go to the toilet. He went at the side of the road, but this also happened just as PC Swirling (Andy Moore) and his mate showed up. Cain was arrested for urinating in public and being drunk and disorderly, which obviously made him a very angry man.

When Cain arrived home in tonight's episode, he lied to Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) about where he had been. Fortunately, Moira had already discovered that he spent the night in a cell. Cain spent the day pondering over whether he'd tell Moira what was really bothering him, and eventually decided that he would. He admitted to his wife that what got to him the most was getting caught short on his way home, and how Swirling's colleague only arrested him for urinating in public because he made the assumption that Cain was just incredibly drunk.

As he reflected on how he is no longer able to consume as much alcohol as what he was previously able to, Cain accepted that this was a sign his body has changed a great deal after the operation. He doesn't like it, but he also needs to get used to it. This was a very honest moment for Cain.

He hates talking about his feelings at the best of times, so telling his wife that his pride took a knock because he couldn't control his bladder was a huge step. Will he continue making progress?
