Detectives investigating an alleged murder in Wimbledon have arrested two men after a body was found in woodlands 30 miles away in Kent.
Initial response and arrests
Police were called to Kingfisher Court, Wimbledon, just before noon on Thursday, July 9, following reports of a murder. When officers arrived, no one was at the property, but they suspected someone had been harmed and launched an investigation.
Two men, aged 27 and 32, had traveled to Kent and were arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody.
Discovery of the body
Later that day, police discovered a deceased man in the woodlands of Borstal, Gillingham, Kent. Although formal identification is pending, investigators believe they know the victim's identity. His next of kin have been informed.
The victim and the two arrested men were known to each other, according to police.
Third arrest and bail
A third man was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. He has since been released on bail.
Investigation lead
Detective Inspector Ben Dalloway, leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family who are understandably distraught at their loss. We will continue to offer them every support.”
He added: “This has been a fast-moving investigation and we are working tirelessly to establish the exact circumstances of the incident. Although we have made two arrests and do not believe there is any wider risk to the public, we would ask that anyone with information comes forward to police as soon as possible by calling 101 with CAD 9504/9JUL.”
