A woman in her 20s was left with a fractured eye, cheekbone, nose, and finger after a man punched her in Peckham because she did not have a cigarette. The attack occurred on November 3 last year in Anstey Road, Peckham.
Attack Details
The victim was approached by a man who asked her for a cigarette. When she said she did not have one, he punched her with such force that she fell to the ground. Police believe the suspect may have followed her from Peckham Rye Station before the assault.
Suspect Description
The suspect is described as a slim Black man, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, possibly in his 30s or 40s. He was wearing a green puffer jacket with white text on the back, just below the hood.
Injuries and Response
A passerby reported the incident immediately, and police arrived within minutes. The victim was treated at the scene and later taken to the hospital by police, where her injuries were found to include a fractured eye socket, cheekbone, nose, and finger. She also suffered a severe concussion.
Police Appeal
Detective Sergeant James Hughes said: “We understand that this unprovoked and violent attack will cause concern for the community. I’d like to reassure the capital that the Met is relentless in its pursuit to prosecute perpetrators and continuously strive to ensure women and girls feel safe when going about their daily lives.”
He added: “We continue to work hard to identify the person responsible and are asking the public to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency if they have any relevant information. No matter how small you think your information is, it may be the missing piece to our investigation.”
