Portobello Road cordon: Market closed after police activity

A cordon has sealed off one of London's most popular market streets following 'police activity' overnight. Red-and-white tape is in place at the junction of Portobello Road and Cambridge Gardens, and along the pedestrian walkway on Acklam Road.

Market remains shut until further notice

Portobello Road Market will remain shut until further notice, Kensington and Chelsea Council said. 'Due to police activity following incidents on Portobello Road overnight, opening the markets and cleaning up the streets nearby will be delayed,' a statement reads. 'Our staff are waiting and ready to open things up as soon as possible.'

The nature of said incidents is currently unconfirmed. Witnesses said forensics officers were seen in the area earlier this morning. The Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service have been contacted for more information.
