The Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation after a piece of rude graffiti was plastered over a wall in Shepherd's Bush, West London. The incident has sparked a viral reaction on social media after Hammersmith and Fulham Council released CCTV footage of the suspect.
The graffiti, which read "I farted in yoga," was discovered on a hoarding along Uxbridge Road on Saturday 2 May 2026. CCTV footage shared by the council appears to show a man wearing a white graphic t-shirt, grey shorts, and trainers writing the message on the temporary boards.
"Do you recognise this man?" a council spokesperson said. "He vandalised hoardings in Uxbridge Road - Shepherds Bush - on Saturday 2 May 2026. If so, please contact @crimestopperstrust anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 or via their website. H&F Council officers have removed the graffiti."
Viral Reaction
The council's appeal for witnesses quickly went viral, amassing more than 50,000 likes and nearly 5,000 comments on social media. Many Londoners found the incident humorous, with some dubbing the suspect "Stanksy." One commenter wrote: "Leave the man alone. He made your boring grey boards less boring." Another said: "Hang it in the Louvre," while a third added: "Great publicity for someone actively seeking public attention."
However, not everyone was amused. Some questioned why police resources were being used for what they considered a harmless prank. "Police appeal wowee!" one user wrote. "A joke on temporary hoardings & there's a crime number!!! Didn't think this post through did you... focus more on real life issues & less on a bit of paint."
Council Response
Hammersmith and Fulham Council stated that officers had already removed the graffiti. The investigation continues as police seek to identify the suspect. The council's post was part of a broader effort to tackle vandalism in the area, but the lighthearted nature of the graffiti has led to widespread amusement online.
