Met Police rapist jailed 25 years for targeting women on apps

Dion Arnold, a former Metropolitan Police officer, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a series of rapes and sexual assaults against vulnerable women he met on dating apps. The 33-year-old used his status as a police officer to gain the trust of his victims before carrying out his fantasies of non-consensual sex.

Details of the crimes

Guildford Crown Court heard that Arnold raped one victim while she was asleep, choked a woman with a scarf until she lost consciousness, and told another he wanted to role-play breaking into her house to lie in wait. One victim fell pregnant from the rape and had to have an abortion; she twice attempted suicide in the aftermath. Another woman recalled Arnold telling her: "What are you going to do – call the police? I am the police."

Sentencing and judge's remarks

On Monday, Judge Deborah Charles sentenced Arnold to 25 years in prison with an additional eight years on licence. She told him: "You have a deep-seated need to control women." The judge noted that Arnold showed little remorse and harbours "deep levels of misogyny." She added: "I'm sure you told these women what you did for a living early on in order to ensure the women you offended against placed their trust in you."

Arnold's background and evidence

Arnold, a former Police Constable who worked on domestic abuse cases for the Met, also served as an Army reservist medic. He kept a list on his phone of more than 30 women he had slept with, noting their medical conditions. After the first rape complaint, detectives used the list to find other victims. The court heard he had "giggled" after one assault, and one victim doubted she was raped because of his police status. Character references from Army colleagues were described as "glowing."

Victim impact statements

One victim said: "His job as a police officer appealed to me. It gave me a green light to trust him and meet with him." She suffered a mental health breakdown, temporarily gave up work, and made two suicide attempts. Another victim said Arnold's offending "has broken my trust in the law." A third victim, who used a safe word that Arnold ignored, described him as "exceptionally calculating" and said she has "lost faith in the judicial process." She added: "I am proud of the fact I came forward, but if I was in that situation again I wouldn't support a criminal investigation."

Prosecutor's statement and court orders

Claire Gallagher, senior crown prosecutor from the Crown Prosecution Service, said: "Arnold deliberately targeted women that he thought would not stop him and would never have the courage to report him. They have proved him wrong and have seen him brought to justice for his appalling crimes." The judge imposed a 25-year restraining order, lifetime sex offender registration, and an indefinite sexual harm prevention order. Arnold must serve at least two-thirds of his 25-year term before parole eligibility, followed by eight years on licence. He has been in prison since his arrest in March 2025 and was sacked by the Met after his convictions.
