A man stabbed to death outside a café in Shadwell, East London, last month has been formally identified as Khalid Achchaq. The 37-year-old succumbed to his injuries in hospital after the attack on April 7.
Details of the Incident
Emergency services were called to Watney Street, near Watney Market, shortly after 4pm following reports of an assault. Mr Achchaq and a second man, aged in his 50s, were knifed in front of Café Rosh. The second victim sustained a minor arm injury and was later discharged from hospital.
Arrest and Charge
Hassan Lbane, 39, of Wodeham Gardens in Whitechapel, surrendered at a police station in the Birmingham area three days after the stabbing. He has been charged with murder and grievous bodily harm. The Metropolitan Police confirmed his arrest after a major evidence search at the crime scene.
Police Appeal
Officers have cordoned off the area and are appealing for CCTV, Ring doorbell, dash cam, and mobile phone footage that may have captured the fatal stabbing. Photos from the scene show evidence markers near metal chairs on a blood-stained pavement, with red-and-white tape blocking the pavement leading to the DLR entrance on Shadwell Place.
