Man arrested for murder after East Finchley shop assault

Detectives have arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of murder following the death of Paul Heyfron, 53, who was assaulted inside a shop in East Finchley last month. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest occurred at an address in Lewisham yesterday, July 17, 2026.

Details of the incident

Police were called to Brook Walk shortly after 10:05 pm on June 30 following reports of an injured man. Mr Heyfron, a local resident, was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service paramedics but died on July 12, nearly two weeks after the assault.

A 47-year-old woman was also arrested at the same location on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both individuals remain in police custody as investigations continue.

Police appeal and family support

Detective Inspector Jon Moseling, the senior investigating officer, stated: "Our thoughts remain with Paul’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time. This is a significant update in our investigation, however, our enquiries continue to establish the circumstances of this tragic incident."

The Met Police added that Mr Heyfron's family are being supported by specially trained officers. Witnesses, particularly those with CCTV or doorbell camera footage, are urged to come forward.
