Jacob Elordi has been accused of putting his career at risk after withdrawing from the Cannes Film Festival jury due to a foot injury, only to be seen vacationing in Hawaii with Kendall Jenner. The 28-year-old Australian actor sparked dating rumors with the 30-year-old American model after they were spotted together at Coachella in April, following an earlier encounter at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.
Vacation in Hawaii
The pair were photographed last week on the island of Kaua’i, staying at the North Shore Preserve Resort. They were seen enjoying coffee, shopping at a wine shop, and sitting on a beach where Kendall held a bottle of rosé. However, the timing raised eyebrows as Elordi had just pulled out of the Cannes Film Festival, which runs from last week until May 23.
Cannes Jury Withdrawal
Earlier this month, The Hollywood Reporter claimed Elordi had been confirmed for a spot on the Cannes competition jury under president Park Chan-wook. The publication reported that a broken foot made the appointment nearly impossible due to the physical demands of navigating the Palais steps and shuttling to screenings and jury duties. Yet, after he was seen walking around Hawaii, many questioned the validity of his injury.
Social media users expressed disappointment and skepticism. User espressoriana posted on X: 'Jacob Elordi declining a Cannes jury offer over a vacation with the Kardashian-Jenner clan tells me everything I need to know about him.' Another user, Rickyjay, commented: 'The thing about Jacob Elordi dropping out of Cannes is it’s a lot of work, and if you don’t feel you’re equipped to take part and take the job seriously, you shouldn’t be there. That being said, there was no need to lie if he doesn’t have an actual foot injury.'
Rochi added: 'Jacob Elordi dropped out of being a juror at the Cannes Film Festival due to a “foot fracture”, but he showed up driving with Kendall Jenner, Kylie, and Timothée Chalamet. I hope these vacations don’t end up costing him his career… I thought he was smarter than that.'
Further Sightings
After the Hawaii photos, Elordi was seen days later in Los Angeles sitting in the front seat of a car with Kendall, while her sister Kylie Jenner and boyfriend Timothée Chalamet were in the back. One person wrote on X: 'How do you turn down the chance to be one of the youngest ever Cannes jury members, due to a foot injury, only to be seen being the DRIVER in a car with 3 other passengers, each who could have taken the wheel if your foot was really that badly injured?' calling it a 'fumble'.
Defenders Speak Out
Despite the backlash, many defended Elordi. Sylveesimstcg posted: 'God forbid a man wants to spend time with his girlfriend…..?????' Another user, 0phi0c0rdyceps, shared: 'He was sleeping in his car because he was barely making Hollywood, he’s made it. So let him do it how it wants because he earned it.' Lydia declared: 'If a man chose to spend time with you over work you’d be telling all your friends about him lol.' Price0fwoke added: 'Genuinely confused on why this upsets y’all so much lol.' Others urged people to 'let him breathe' and enjoy a work-life balance after a busy year promoting Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights, and Euphoria.
Cannes Jury Details
Had Elordi accepted the Cannes offer, he would have served on a jury chaired by director Park Chan-wook, alongside Alexander Skarsgård, Demi Moore, Chloé Zhao, Ruth Negga, Laura Wandel, Diego Céspedes, Isaach De Bankolé, and Paul Laverty. He would have been one of the youngest jurors in Cannes history.
Personal Life
Neither Elordi nor Jenner has commented on the dating rumors. Elordi has previously been linked to Kaia Gerber, Zendaya, Joey King, and Olivia Jade, with whom he dated on and off from December 2021 until January 2026. Jenner was most recently linked to Bad Bunny, splitting in December 2023 but reconciling multiple times. She has also dated Devin Booker, Ben Simmons, Blake Griffin, A$AP Rocky, and Harry Styles. In a 2019 interview with Vogue Australia, she said her friendships and relationships are 'very special and very sacred' and that bringing things into the public makes everything 'so much messier'.
