Gary Glitter, the disgraced singer whose real name is Paul Gadd, has been charged with four sexual offences against a girl dating back to 1978, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced on July 2, 2026.
Background of Previous Convictions
Glitter was previously jailed for 16 years in 2015 for sexually abusing three schoolgirls between 1975 and 1980. He was released from prison last year but was fitted with a GPS tag. He soon returned to custody for breaching his license conditions.
Currently serving his sentence at HMP Channings Wood in Devon, Glitter was recently questioned by police over fresh allegations. The Metropolitan Police stated: 'A man in his 80s was interviewed under caution in relation to the reported offending… The investigation is ongoing, and the victim is currently being supported by specialist officers.'
Police Response and Safeguarding Efforts
The Met Police emphasised their commitment to supporting victims of non-recent sexual offences, stating: 'Anyone reporting non-recent sexual offences will be listened to and supported.' They also highlighted recent improvements: 'Over the past year, the Met has expanded safeguarding teams, and rolled out training on victim approach, resulting in charges more than doubling for child sexual exploitation.'
The CPS has authorised the charges, and Glitter is expected to appear in court at a later date. The case underscores ongoing efforts to address historical sexual abuse.
