Hungary's opposition Fidesz party, led by former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, announced that prosecutors raided its office to access the party's entire communications system and databases. The party described the intervention as unprecedented in Hungary's post-communist history.
Fidesz Accuses Government of Tyranny
In a Facebook post, Fidesz blamed the new government, led by Péter Magyar, for the raid, stating: "The Tisza Party's plan to eliminate Fidesz and with it the resistance to tyranny through political means has failed. Therefore, the Tisza Party is now attempting to legally disable Fidesz."
PM Magyar Responds
Prime Minister Péter Magyar issued a holding statement on his Facebook page, saying: "We await the information on what case they are investigating and what was seized."
The raid comes after Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party lost the general election in April. Orbán was seen waving to supporters at the Balna centre in Budapest following the defeat.
