Epstein Files Expose Extensive Network of High-Profile Contacts

The recent release of approximately three million documents related to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein has provided unprecedented insight into the breadth and depth of his social and professional connections. While inclusion in these files does not imply any wrongdoing or knowledge of Epstein's criminal activities, the correspondence offers a detailed map of his interactions with prominent individuals across the globe, from royalty and politicians to celebrities and business leaders.

Norwegian Royalty and a Parisian 'Wife Hunt'

The documents have brought to light a series of communications between Epstein and Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, spanning from 2011 to 2014. The exchanges, as reported by the Norwegian daily VG, include messages where the princess described Epstein as "soft hearted" and "such a sweetheart," and in one instance told him "you tickle my brain." In 2012, she inquired about the appropriateness of suggesting "two naked women carrying a surfboard" as wallpaper for her teenage sons.

Earlier that year, they discussed Epstein being on a "wife hunt" in Paris, with Mette-Marit remarking that the French capital was "good for adultery" and suggesting Scandinavians were "better wife material." In a 2011 message, she noted she had "Googled" him and said "it didn't look too good," accompanied by a smiling emoji. The princess, who married the future King of Norway in 2001, has since stated she "showed poor judgment" and "deeply regret[ted]" the contact. A royal spokesperson indicated she ended written communication in 2014, believing Epstein was attempting to leverage their relationship.

Deepak Chopra's Involvement and Views

The files detail a significant relationship between Epstein and the holistic wellness guru Deepak Chopra, who met with the financier at least twelve times between 2016 and 2019 for "meditation and funding meetings" related to alternative science health projects. Chopra attended intimate dinner parties at Epstein's New York residence, which also included figures like filmmaker Woody Allen, and described these evenings as "a blast."

In November 2016, Epstein forwarded a report to Chopra concerning a woman who had made allegations against both Epstein and Donald Trump, claiming she had a history of drug use. When Epstein informed Chopra that the civil charges had been dropped, Chopra simply replied, "Good." In a subsequent statement, Chopra expressed hope that "all of the truth comes out" and stated his willingness to cooperate with authorised officials.

Peter Mandelson's Memoir and Epstein's Warning

Former UK ambassador to the US, Peter Mandelson, who is currently under police investigation for misconduct in public office in relation to the Epstein files, described the financier as his "chief life adviser." The documents reveal that Mandelson sent Epstein a draft of his memoir, The Third Man: Life at the heart of New Labour, in May 2010.

Epstein expressed concern that the gossipy tone of the manuscript could damage Mandelson's prospects for dealmaking in his post-political career. He warned that the book risked driving "a commercial stake through your heart," as the deals Mandelson sought required "discretion, trust, handshakes, privacy." Epstein criticised the portrayal of figures like Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, and suggested the narrative was "not uplifting" but rather "gossipy and defensive." Mandelson disagreed, stating Epstein had read it too quickly and that it was unfinished. He maintains he was deceived by Epstein, whom he characterises as a "master manipulator," and denies any criminal intent or financial motivation.

Ehud Barak's Defence Deal Admiration

The files repeatedly mention former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, indicating regular contact with Epstein for many years following Epstein's 2008 guilty plea for sex crimes in Florida. Correspondence includes plans for a 2017 stay at Epstein's New York residence and discussions about dinner dates, meetings, and phone calls.

In a letter reportedly compiled for Epstein's 63rd birthday in 2016, Barak and his wife praised Epstein's curiosity, writing "there is no limit to your curiosity" and describing him as "A COLLECTOR OF PEOPLE." Epstein, in turn, mentioned Barak to others as being "next level" in arranging defence industry deals. Barak has acknowledged visiting Epstein in New York and flying on his private plane but maintains he never witnessed or learned of any inappropriate behaviour.

Anil Ambani's Request for Kushner Meeting

The documents suggest that billionaire CEO Anil Ambani of India's Reliance Group first contacted Epstein in early 2017. Over more than two years, they exchanged messages on various platforms, discussing topics from geopolitics to personal style. According to reports, Ambani was introduced to Epstein by a Gulf-based businessman.

In March 2017, Ambani indicated that leadership in Delhi sought access to Jared Kushner and Steve Bannon ahead of a proposed visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Washington. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has denied any official knowledge of such consultations, dismissing the emails as "trashy ruminations." There is no evidence from the files that Ambani had any involvement in Epstein's unlawful activities.

Strict Rulebook for Florida Mansion

The latest release includes Epstein's full "household manual" for his Florida mansion, which had been partially revealed during Ghislaine Maxwell's 2021 trial. The manual imposed strict, cult-like requirements on staff, mandating they "see nothing, hear nothing, say nothing." Other rules specified that air conditioning be kept at 60°F, guns be provided in bedside drawers, and large quantities of tissues and toothpaste be stocked in bathrooms. It also included a "vibe check" section with specific instructions for the provision and placement of sex toys.

Epstein's Definition of 'Freedom'

In July 2009, shortly after Epstein's release from Palm Beach County Jail, Peter Mandelson asked him, "How is freedom feeling?" Epstein replied, "She feels fresh firm and creamy." When Mandelson inquired how they should celebrate, Epstein suggested "With Grace and Modesty (those are the names of two strippers)." Mandelson responded, "From now on grace and modesty [should] be discovered in London."

Epstein's 'Friend' for Prince Andrew

In the summer of 2010, Epstein suggested to the then-Prince Andrew that he might enjoy dinner with a 26-year-old Russian woman named Irina, describing her as "clever, beautiful, trustworthy." Andrew appeared pleased, asking if she would bring a message and requesting her contact details. He also sought additional information, asking what Epstein had told her about him. Epstein reassured him, confirming she had his email.

Woody Allen's Downing Street Invitation

In 2011, Ian Osborne, who ran a press relations consultancy, forwarded an email from 10 Downing Street to Epstein, expressing interest in meeting Woody Allen. Osborne explained it was from David Cameron's office, specifically Rohan Silva and Steve Hilton. Epstein inquired if Cameron would be present, and upon confirmation, agreed to "strongly encourage" the meeting if it was important to Osborne.

Steve Bannon's Image Management Advice

The files provide detailed insight into Epstein's relationship with former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, who acted as a mentor for Epstein's public image rehabilitation efforts. Bannon advised on personal grooming, such as beard length, and received high-end gifts like a Hermès Apple watch in return.

In a 2019 exchange, Bannon outlined strategies to change Epstein's reputation, including pushing back on lies, crushing the "pedo/trafficking narrative," and rebuilding his image as a philanthropist. In a video interview included in the files, Bannon asked Epstein, "Do you think you're the devil himself?" Epstein replied, "No, but I do have a good mirror," and when pressed further, stated, "The devil scares me." Bannon has not yet commented publicly on the latest document release.
