Actress Emaa Hussen, best known for her role as Naz in the EastEnders spin-off E20, has been arrested in Sydney after allegedly attempting to smuggle 320 kilograms of methamphetamine into Australia. The 34-year-old was caught in a drug bust valued at £160 million.
Details of the Arrest
The meth was reportedly concealed inside bags of charcoal shipped from Ghana, West Africa. Authorities at Port Botany discovered the shipment after X-raying the consignment, finding a white crystallised substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine. The drugs were delivered to a storage facility in Girraween, but Border Force officers had already been alerted.
Hussen allegedly unpacked the drugs with other suspects and drove to a property in Blacktown, where police arrested her. Investigators claim to have found 32 bags in the home, matching those used to hide the drugs. Police seized electronic devices and a notebook, and Hussen remains in custody until her next court appearance in August.
Charges and Potential Sentence
Hussen faces life in prison after being charged with attempting to smuggle the drugs into Australia. She was arrested alongside a couple from Adelaide who were charged in April. Local police stated: “The seizure of these drugs – with an estimated street value of $296 million – has prevented a potential 3.2 million deals from reaching Australian streets.” They added that criminal syndicates often disguise illicit drugs in everyday goods, but officers are trained to detect them.
Acting Career
Hussen has not acted since 2013, when she appeared in Redemption (also known as Hummingbird) alongside Jason Statham. Before that, she appeared in series two of the short-lived EastEnders spin-off E20, which aired from 2010 to 2011.
