A man described as 'big-hearted' and 'innocent' has been named as the victim of a drive-by shooting in Brixton, south London. Keanu Taylor, 25, was fatally wounded in the attack on Coldharbour Lane in the early hours of Saturday, May 2.
Details of the Shooting
Police were called at 1:14 a.m. following reports of multiple gunshots. Officers arrived within four minutes and provided first aid alongside the London Ambulance Service. Taylor was taken to hospital but died from his injuries. Three other individuals, including a pensioner, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
Witnesses reported that the gunman fired indiscriminately from a moving vehicle at a barbecue attended by approximately 50 people. One witness told Metro that the shooter 'did not care who he hit.'
Family and Friends Pay Tribute
Taylor's family released a statement saying: 'Keanu was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, and friend. He was loved by everyone, and his smile would light up a room. Keanu had the world at his feet, and he's left a huge hole in our family; our hearts are absolutely broken.'
A friend described him as 'a big-hearted guy who loved his family. He was innocent. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.' Another added: 'It is always the innocent who suffer. He was not in a gang or anything like that. This type of thing is a danger to us in the community.'
Ongoing Investigation
Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo, leading the investigation, said: 'This was a shocking act of violence which has had a devastating impact on those involved and the local community. I want to reassure residents that we are working urgently to identify and apprehend those responsible.'
Police have deployed extra patrols, collected CCTV footage, and conducted forensic analysis. No arrests have been made. Authorities urge anyone with information to call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
Community Impact
A memorial with flowers and a photo has been set up at the scene. The location is near where 22-year-old Keelen Wong was fatally stabbed in October 2023, leading locals to dub the area 'murder mile.' The Met Police statement confirmed that Taylor's next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.
