Boy, 14, charged with murder of Jamal Coombes, 17, in Battersea

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Jamal Coombes in Battersea. The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of stabbing Jamal on Glycena Road at around 4:05am on Saturday, June 20. He was also charged with possession of a bladed article.

Incident Details

Paramedics, including specialist medics from London's Air Ambulance, treated Jamal for serious injuries near the junction with Grayshott Road, where he had collapsed. Despite their efforts, he died at the scene a short time later. The Metropolitan Police believe an armed fight occurred in the area earlier that day.

Arrests and Charges

The 14-year-old, from Wandsworth, was detained on Sunday, June 21, and charged on Monday, June 22. He is scheduled to appear at Highbury Corner Youth Court later today. A 15-year-old boy has also been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. Additionally, a boy and girl, both aged 15, who were arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday, have been released on bail as investigations continue.

Police Appeal

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie said: "Our thoughts remain firmly with Jamal’s loved ones following his tragic death. I understand the impact this incident has had on the local community. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to speak with one of our officers on patrol in the area this week."
