It has been over three months since Brooklyn Beckham publicly criticized his parents, David and Victoria Beckham. In January, the eldest son of the former footballer and Spice Girl finally addressed rumors of a long-standing family rift. After initial speculation in 2022 about a fallout around the time of his wedding to Nicola Peltz, Brooklyn and his wife initially presented a united front but began distancing themselves last year.
Brooklyn's Statement
In a lengthy Instagram statement in January, Brooklyn declared: 'I have been silent for years... Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself.' He stated he did not want to reconcile with his family, accusing them of controlling narratives and prioritizing 'Brand Beckham' over genuine relationships. He also claimed his parents tried to ruin his relationship before his wedding and criticized his brothers for attacking him on social media.
Victoria Beckham's Response
Victoria addressed the feud for the first time in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, saying: 'I think that we’ve always – we love our children so much. We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be.' She denied guilt over bringing her children into the spotlight but acknowledged the challenges. In a subsequent podcast, she dismissed the concept of 'Brand Beckham,' insisting it was never intentional.
David Beckham's Remarks
David Beckham alluded to the situation during a CNBC interview, stating: 'Children are allowed to make mistakes. That’s how they learn.' He emphasized the importance of letting children learn from their errors.
Other Family Members
Nicola Peltz's father, billionaire Nelson Peltz, joked about the family being in the press and advised staying out of it. He expressed support for his daughter and son-in-law, wishing them a happy marriage.
The feud continues, with Brooklyn and Nicola absent from family events and making pointed social media posts. The Beckhams have largely avoided direct confrontation, but the rift remains unresolved.
