Nicolas Cage, 62, has unveiled a dramatic transformation, trading his brunette locks for a fully grey head of hair and beard. The Oscar-winning actor showcased his new silver fox look while attending the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art Opening Night in Los Angeles this weekend, alongside his wife, Riko Shibata.
Cage, known for his ever-changing hairstyles over the decades—from his thick, unkempt mop in the 80s to the long, flowing tresses of the 90s and the balding ginger wig in the 2002 comedy-drama Adaptation—has now fully embraced his natural greying. His hair had been dark brown, which he colored in recent years as he began to go grey. Now, he appears to have let it all go, proudly displaying his grey hair and beard at the event.
A Dapper Appearance with Riko Shibata
At the event, Cage looked dapper in a blue tuxedo jacket with satin lapels, a white, slightly unbuttoned shirt, and black trousers, accessorized with stylish sunglasses. Shibata, 31, whom he married in 2021, held his hand as photographers captured the moment. She wore an all-cream ensemble featuring a coat with sheer sleeves, and her raven hair was styled sleek and straight.
The couple attended the opening night of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, celebrating George Lucas's 11-acre campus, which includes galleries, theaters, and restaurants. The event was co-chaired by Lewis Hamilton, who was joined by his girlfriend Kim Kardashian. Other notable guests included Oprah Winfrey and Katy Perry.
How Cage and Shibata Met
Cage met Shibata in 2019 through mutual friends in Japan while he was filming Prisoners of the Ghostland (2021), in which she had a small role as a 'mannequin woman.' In a 2021 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Cage recalled their instant connection: 'We met in Japan, and I thought she was stunning when I met her. We had a lot in common. She likes animals, too. So, I asked her, “Do you have any pets?” And she said, “Yes, I have flying squirrels.” She had two sugar gliders… I thought, “That’s it. This, this could work out.”'
Cage confirmed the marriage to People, saying, 'It’s true, and we are very happy.' The ceremony took place at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas on February 16, a date chosen to honor Shibata's late father's birthday. The event was described as 'very small and intimate.'
Hair Transplant Rumors and Ageing Reflections
Over the years, speculation has mounted about whether Cage has had a hair transplant, as fans and experts noted his hair appeared denser in his 50s than in his 40s. Reports have also suggested that expensive custom lace-front wigs and hair pieces were used on sets and for public outings to manage advanced thinning and receding temples. Cage has never commented on these rumors.
However, Cage has spoken about ageing and his changing lifestyle. On The New York Times' podcast The Interview, he reflected: 'It’s no secret that I have, over the years, particularly early on, perhaps, had a lack of impulse control and probably shouldn’t have bought that car or shouldn’t have bought that property or whatever it was.' He added, 'I am extraordinarily boring right now. I live a very monastic life. I am not taking any risks whatsoever if I can avoid it.'
Cage also shared that he is 'all about' raising his young daughter, August, whom he and Shibata welcomed in September 2022, 'to have a happy and healthy life.' He stated, 'That is my focus. That, and when I work. That’s it.' Cage also has adult children Kal-El and Weston from previous relationships.
