Marks & Spencer has confirmed that its first Sydenham foodhall will open its doors at Bell Green Retail Park on Wednesday, September 16, welcoming shoppers from 8am.
New store details and offerings
The market-style shop covers 14,600 sq ft and includes a bakery, coffee counter, and dedicated flower and wine sections. More than 50 staff members have been hired ahead of the launch.
Store manager Richard Conelly said: "It's less than a week to go until we unveil our first Sydenham store and we can't wait. We're so excited to be part of the community and the team have been hard at work getting everything ready ahead of next Wednesday."
Conelly added: "We have so many products for customers to explore inside, from well-known favourites to brand-new seasonal launches, and everything customers need for their weekly shop."
Expansion across London
Bell Green Sydenham is the third of four new M&S stores opening across London this financial year, following openings in Tooting and Tottenham Court Road. A further store in Elephant and Castle is scheduled to open next month.
The announcement follows the recent reopening of the upgraded M&S in Clapham Junction, which attracted hundreds of shoppers queuing to be first through the doors. That store reopened in early September after a seven-week makeover, adding 500 new products to its shelves.
Growth strategy
M&S is aiming to double the size of its food business by growing its store footprint and expanding existing stores across the capital and the UK to offer a wider range of products. The supermarket chain said this move is part of its strategy to become a shopping list retailer.
The new M&S Sydenham store is located at Unit 5A, Bell Green Retail Park, SE26 4PR. Opening hours are 8am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and 10.30am to 4pm on Sundays.
