Iranian Drone Strike Targets US Consulate in Dubai Overnight
A suspected Iranian drone attack has struck the United States Consulate building in Dubai, causing a fire in the adjacent parking lot during an overnight strike. Footage from the scene shows smoke rising from the vicinity of the diplomatic facility as Iran continues its wave of retaliatory attacks across the Middle East region. The incident follows the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US-Israel strikes, known as Operation Epic Fury, which occurred on Saturday.
Regional Retaliation Escalates
Iran has been targeting US military bases and installations across multiple countries in the Middle East, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Kuwait. The Dubai authorities have confirmed that no injuries resulted from this latest drone attack. In an official statement, they reported: 'The competent authorities in Dubai succeeded in extinguishing a limited fire in the vicinity of the U.S. Consulate in Dubai resulting from a drone targeting operation, and the incident did not result in any injuries.'
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio provided additional details about the attack, noting that the drone struck a parking lot next to the consulate building, which is also located near the British Embassy. Rubio stated: 'As I came in, I also saw the media reports about Dubai's consulate. The last update I had was that a drone unfortunately struck a parking lot adjacent to the Chancery building, and then set off a fire in that place. All personnel are accounted for. As you're aware, we began drawing down personnel from our diplomatic facilities in advance of this.'
Additional Attacks Reported
On Monday, Iran also targeted the CIA station in Saudi Arabia in suspected drone attacks. The intelligence agency had previously pinpointed Khamenei's location for the attack on his compound in Tehran. The CIA station, which was based within the US Embassy in Riyadh, sustained structural damage and was contaminated by smoke from the strike.
Iran has launched multiple retaliatory strikes across the Middle East, specifically targeting US military bases and organizations. These attacks represent a significant escalation in regional tensions following the elimination of Iran's supreme leader.
