Four arrested in East Sussex terror investigation

Counter-terrorism officers have arrested four individuals in East Sussex as part of a major investigation into extreme right-wing terrorism.

Details of the arrests across Eastbourne and Brighton

The arrests were conducted by specialist officers from Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE), supported by local Sussex Police forces. A 27-year-old woman from Hailsham and three men from Eastbourne, aged 33, 36, and 41, were taken into custody. All four are being held under the Terrorism Act 2000.

The operation, which took place on Thursday 4 December 2025, was described by Assistant Chief Constable Steve Rayland as a "part of a planned operation". Searches are currently underway at a number of residential properties connected to the investigation.

Increased police presence and ongoing enquiries

Residents in the local areas of Eastbourne and Brighton may notice a heightened police presence while these searches are carried out. Assistant Chief Constable Rayland confirmed this is a routine procedure in cases of this nature. The specific addresses subject to search have not been publicly disclosed at this stage.

The investigation remains active and is being led by the dedicated regional counter-terrorism unit. The arrests underscore the ongoing vigilance and proactive work of UK security services in tackling all forms of extremist threat.
