A major investigation by Wiltshire Police has resulted in six men being charged with a series of sexual offences against one woman over a thirteen-year period.
Extensive Charges Laid Against Ex-Husband
Philip Young, 49, formerly of Swindon, has been charged with a total of 56 sexual offences against his now former wife, Joanne Young, 48. The charges span the period between 2010 and 2023.
His alleged crimes include multiple counts of rape. He also faces charges of administering a substance with intent to stupefy or overpower to allow sexual activity, voyeurism, possession of indecent images of children, and possession of extreme images.
Five Other Men Also Face Court
Alongside Philip Young, five other men have been charged with sexual offences against the same victim and are due to appear at court. Wiltshire Police have named them as:
- Norman Macksoni, 47, of Sharnbrook (black British national): charged with one count of rape and possession of extreme images.
- Dean Hamilton, 47, of no fixed abode (white British national): charged with one count of rape, sexual assault by penetration, and two counts of sexual touching.
- Conner Sanderson Doyle, 31, of Swindon (white British national): charged with sexual assault by penetration and sexual touching.
- Richard Wilkins, 61, of Swindon (white British national): charged with one count of rape and sexual touching.
- Mohammed Hassan, 37, of Swindon (British Asian male): charged with sexual touching.
Victim Waives Legal Right to Anonymity
In a significant development, the victim in the case, Joanne Young, has chosen to waive her automatic legal right to lifelong anonymity. This right has been in place for rape complainants since the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1976 and was later extended to other sexual offences.
Detective Superintendent Geoff Smith of Wiltshire Police stated: "This is a significant update in what is a complex and extensive investigation. The victim in this case, Joanne, has taken the decision to waive her automatic legal right to anonymity. She has been supported by specially trained officers from the beginning of the process and she has made the decision following multiple discussions with officers and support services."
The case represents a substantial and ongoing effort by Wiltshire Police, with all accused due to face the judicial process.
