Summit Foods recalls wraps over E.coli contamination fears

Summit Foods has apologized and recalled several filled wrap products after possible contamination with Shiga toxin-producing E.coli (STEC), a bacteria that can lead to kidney failure and death. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) urged consumers not to eat the affected items and to dispose of them immediately.

Which products are affected?

The recall covers four individually packaged items: Snacksters Chicken Fajita Wrap, Snacksters Hoi Sin Wrap, East Street Deli Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap, and Target a Snack Chicken Fajita Wrap. All affected products have a use-by date of up to and including September 5, 2026.

The FSA said the possible presence of STEC was detected during routine testing. STEC can cause severe diarrhoea, including bloody diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and occasionally haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal.

FSA advice and symptoms

In a statement, the food watchdog advised: “Symptoms caused by STEC can include severe diarrhoea (including bloody diarrhoea), abdominal pain and occasionally haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal.”

“If you are experiencing these symptoms, you should stay away from work, school or nursery until you have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others,” the FSA added.

Summit Foods responds

Summit Foods issued a statement following the FSA recall: “As part of our routine testing, we have identified a potential food safety issue affecting a small number of our wrap products.”

“We are working closely with the authorities and our customers to recall the affected products. Consumer safety remains our highest priority. We are sorry for any concern or inconvenience this may cause,” the company said.
