SNL UK star hospitalized after samurai sword accident

Saturday Night Live UK cast member Paddy Young was rushed to the hospital after cutting his hand with a samurai sword and subsequently fainting. The 34-year-old comedian, who co-hosts the Weekend Update segment on the show alongside Taskmaster star Ania Magliano, shared the dramatic incident on Instagram.

In a post from his hospital bed, Young wrote: 'Cut my finger with a samurai sword !!!' He thanked friends Bebe Cave, Ed Night, and Horatio Gould for 'breastfeeding me back to good health,' and Sam Campbell for bringing the sword to his home but running away when he fainted.

Additional photos showed Young on a sofa with his bandaged hand alongside Night and Gould, as well as selfies with Campbell and Cave. He joked that his Edinburgh Fringe run was '90% sold out,' while his tendon was '90% lacerated' and his 'aura 100% lost.'

Fellow comedians and SNL UK stars flooded the comments with well-wishes. Co-anchor Magliano commented: 'Oh no not your beatboxing hand!!!' Co-star Al Nash said he 'felt the aura loss from three scrolls away,' while producer Susia Hall simply cried: 'Paddyyyyyy!!!!'

SNL UK director Will Farrell joked: 'Sam told me he thought the sword wouldn’t have cut you if you were honorable.' Comedian Amy Webber quipped: 'Fully thought the arm cast was part of your costume on Sunday ?'

Young responded to comments with emojis only, unsurprising given his heavily bandaged hand. Earlier this year, he reflected on joining the Sky One sketch show, joking about how it might help him buy a house. Speaking at the BAFTA Awards, he said: 'We don’t know right now how much. But it seems like maybe it might.'

SNL UK has been renewed for a second series of 12 episodes, set to air in Autumn 2026. Producer Lorne Michaels praised the team, saying: 'I’m incredibly proud of our team and the show. It keeps getting better every week.'
