Perez Hilton's family says he can communicate after hospitalisation

Perez Hilton's family has confirmed that the celebrity blogger is now able to communicate while he continues to recover in hospital following a distressing incident that was livestreamed on TikTok. The family expressed both relief and ongoing concern, stating that the lack of information has been challenging.

Family's statement and hope

In a statement, Hilton's family said: 'This has been incredibly difficult and emotional for us, made even harder because very little information has been made available to our family. While we continue to wait for further updates, we remain hopeful.' They added, 'We have also been able to confirm that Perez can communicate, which has given our family hope.'

The 48-year-old, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira Jr, has been hospitalised since the incident, which occurred during a live stream on the social media platform. Concerned viewers alerted emergency services after witnessing the alleged self-harm.

Emergency response details

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office told CNN that they 'received multiple calls regarding an individual who was livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media.' Deputies quickly located his residence, where they spoke with family members and confirmed he was alone inside. The sheriff's office emphasised their approach to such crises: 'In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritise de-escalation by creating time, distance and opportunities for communication. Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilising crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of injury to the individual, deputies and the public.'

The sheriff's office added that its crisis response unit and licensed mental health professionals were dispatched to the scene, providing support for Hilton's family. Hilton was 'safely recovered' and transported to a local hospital, where he is receiving medical attention. His current condition has not been officially confirmed.

Social media aftermath and recent health issues

After the livestream ended, graphic clips allegedly showing Hilton covered in blood circulated on social media, raising further concerns. This incident comes just months after Hilton suffered a string of serious health problems. In March, he revealed he had been hospitalised with severe sepsis while in Las Vegas.

Hilton, known for his celebrity gossip website PerezHilton.com, rose to fame in the 2000s and has remained a prominent online personality for over two decades. His family has not provided further details about his current condition, but they remain hopeful for his recovery.
