London Dermatology Clinic Ceases Operations Following Critical CQC Report
A dermatology clinic located in the City of London has permanently closed its doors after a damning investigation by the Care Quality Commission revealed significant patient safety concerns. Enterprise Health Care, situated on Eastcheap, stopped trading after the health watchdog found it was failing to ensure treatments were conducted safely and hygienically.
Investigation Uncovers Multiple Safety Violations
The Care Quality Commission carried out its inspection in January 2026, prompted by stakeholder feedback and the fact the clinic had not been inspected since June 2019. The resulting report rated the practice as inadequate overall, with particular concerns in the 'Safe' and 'Well-led' categories.
CQC inspectors identified numerous critical failures, including:
- Inadequate infection prevention and control measures
- Unsafe storage of surgical instruments without proper dating
- Improper decontamination of surgical equipment in a staff kitchen area
- Multiple mouse traps and bait stations found in clinical areas
- Failure to maintain electrical equipment and premises safety
- Lack of preparedness for medical emergencies
Leadership and Management Deficiencies
The clinic's leadership was described as "insufficient" by investigators, who found no effective systems for engaging with key stakeholders. The Registered Manager and GP clinical lead had not visited the premises in months, with management being conducted remotely.
"There were no effective arrangements to receive, share, and act on patient safety alerts," the CQC report stated. "The practice was not keeping its facilities and equipment clean and well-maintained, nor were staff qualifications always properly verified."
Special Measures and Closure
Following the January inspection, CQC placed Enterprise Health Care into special measures and issued an 'Inadequate' overall rating. London Dermatology Clinic, which owned the business, confirmed the service has ceased trading and is no longer operating from the Eastcheap premises.
While the clinic received 'Good' ratings in the 'Effective', 'Caring', and 'Responsive' categories, the serious safety concerns ultimately led to its closure. The case highlights the rigorous standards enforced by healthcare regulators in London's private medical sector.
