Jesy Nelson Discloses Hidden Suicide Attempt in New Documentary
Jesy Nelson has bravely revealed a previously undisclosed suicide attempt that occurred before her departure from the chart-topping girl group Little Mix. The 34-year-old singer, who left the band in 2020 after nine years, cited mental health issues as the primary reason for her exit, and now, in a new docuseries titled Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix on Amazon Prime Video, she sheds further light on the severe depths of her struggles.
Mental Health Crisis and Band Dynamics
In the documentary, Nelson recounts feeling isolated and unsupported by her bandmates, which led to a critical moment where she attempted suicide through an overdose. She describes how, after expressing her feelings to the group, one member responded dismissively, asking, "Are you done now, is that it?" This interaction left her feeling profoundly alone and hopeless, exacerbating her mental health decline.
Her mother, Janice, played a crucial role during this crisis. Sensing her daughter was in a dark place, Janice repeatedly tried to contact Jesy, eventually reaching her only to hear slurred speech and a dropped phone. An ambulance was immediately called, and Jesy was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Historical Struggles and Recent Challenges
This was not the first time Jesy faced such a dire situation; she also overdosed in 2013 following a performance on X Factor, driven by unbearable emotional pain. In a 2021 podcast interview, she explained that she "physically couldn't tolerate the pain anymore," highlighting the ongoing nature of her mental health battles.
Recently, Jesy has faced additional hardships, including the diagnosis of her twins with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a condition that may prevent them from walking or surviving past their third birthday. This news coincided with the end of her relationship with partner Zion Foster, though they continue to co-parent their children.
