Sara Cox has revealed that Liam Gallagher told her to 'f*** off' after she insulted his then-girlfriend Patsy Kensit on a TV segment. The incident occurred during the 1990s when Cox co-hosted Channel 4's The Girlie Show with Sarah Cawood. The show featured a weekly segment called 'W***** of the Week', which mocked celebrities.
Cox's Regret Over 'Mean' Segment
Cox, now 51, admitted to The Sun that the segment was 'so mean'. She said: 'It was like anyone was fair game if you're in the public eye. I used to present them in the production meeting quite proudly — 'Here's this week's w*****'. And the producers would be, like, 'Great!'' She added that she was 'absolutely buzzing' that the producers liked her writing, which involved a 'minute-and-a-half takedown' of figures like Chris Evans or Liam Gallagher.
After targeting Kensit, Cox later encountered Gallagher on the set of Top of the Pops. Despite knowing she had insulted his partner, she approached him. 'I don't know why I went over — I'd called his wife a w***** on the telly,' she said. 'I was, like, 'Oh, I'll go and say hello. I really like his music'.'
Gallagher's Blunt Response
Gallagher was, in Cox's words, 'quite rightly miffed with her.' She recalled: 'He was, like, 'Yeah, you can f*** off, you slag!' I don't know what else I was expecting.' The encounter left Cox unable to listen to Oasis's music for a time. She said: 'They were huge, but I was, like, 'Well, that's ruined Definitely, Maybe for the foreseeable.'
No Lasting Ill Feelings
Despite the heated exchange, Cox believes there is no lingering animosity. She said she has met Gallagher since and 'doesn't think there's any ill feeling there now.' The incident highlights a bygone era when celebrities were less concerned with appearing 'nice' and more willing to engage in public feuds.
