Former Doctor Nathaniel Spencer Charged With 98 Sex Offences Against 38 Patients
Ex-doctor charged over alleged assaults on 38 patients

A former doctor is facing nearly one hundred charges relating to alleged sexual assaults on 38 patients, including children, while he was working at two NHS hospitals in the Midlands.

Details of the Serious Charges

Nathaniel Spencer, aged 38 and from Birmingham, has been charged with a total of 98 offences following a complex police investigation. The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised charges including 15 counts of sexual assault, 17 counts of assault by penetration, and nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.

The charges also encompass three counts of assaulting a child under 13 by penetration and one count of attempted assault by penetration. The alleged offences are said to have taken place between 2017 and 2021.

Hospitals Involved and Police Investigation

Staffordshire Police confirmed the charges stem from alleged incidents at the Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley. The force's Public Protection Unit led what it described as a detailed and complex inquiry into the serious sexual offences.

Ben Samples, deputy chief crown prosecutor for the West Midlands CPS Complex Casework Unit, stated: "We have decided to prosecute Nathaniel Spencer for a number of serious sexual offences allegedly carried out against patients while he was working as a doctor."

He added that prosecutors worked extensively with police, reviewing evidence to establish there was sufficient grounds for a trial and that proceedings were in the public interest.

Court Appearance Scheduled

Spencer is scheduled to make his first court appearance in connection with these charges at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on 20 January 2026. The case highlights ongoing scrutiny of patient safety and safeguarding within healthcare settings.

The police have urged anyone with further information or concerns to come forward as the judicial process begins. This case is likely to be closely followed due to the severity of the allegations and the breach of trust involved in the relationship between a doctor and their patients.
