Emmerdale's Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) faces a humbling moment as he tries to teach his son Lewis Barton (Bradly Riches) to ride a bike, only to reveal he cannot ride one himself. The crash, which leaves Kev sprawled on the ground, becomes a tender bonding moment when Lewis joins him on the floor, just as Lewis delivers huge news. This comes as Ruby Miligan (Beth Cordingly) pressures Kev to rob a delivery for Jimmy's new haulage contract, testing his vow to leave his criminal past behind.
Kev's persistent pursuit of fatherhood
Kev has been determined to be a dad to Lewis, despite opposition from Ross Barton (Mike Parr), Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson), and his dodgy pal Steve (Jason Done). Ross set up Kev to look like he burgled the café, with Nicola King (Nichola Wheeler) as an accomplice, but the truth emerged. Vinny then spread rumors that Kev was off to do a job with a crowbar, when in reality he was stopping Steve. Vinny also falsely accused Kev of attacking him, though Vinny later confessed, driven by his own childhood trauma and a desire to protect Lewis.
Now that Lewis has accepted Kev back, their relationship is tentative. Kev is on edge, feeling out of his depth as a dad. When Lewis admits he can't ride a bike, Kev offers to teach him, but he himself lacks the skill. His attempt ends in a crash, and as he lies on the ground, Lewis lies beside him, bonding and sharing significant news.
Ruby's tempting offer and Kev's resolve
Ruby Miligan corners Kev and asks him to rob the delivery for Jimmy's haulage contract. She doesn't expect him to refuse, but he does, insisting he's done with that life. However, Ruby might have leverage to force his hand. Before dealing with that, Kev must figure out how to balance on two wheels, a literal and metaphorical challenge.
Bradley Riches, who plays Lewis, teased upcoming drama: 'There will be some highs and lows, some dramas, some fights. There's going to be a lot. Lewis starts to process something, then something happens, and it all goes back to square one. It all happens on the birthday so it's even more dramatic. In the coming weeks you see Kev and Lewis bond because there's some hard stuff coming up. Lewis thought things were going to be perfect but nothing is as perfect as it seems. The Barton family come together and support each other, which is really nice.'
What's next for Kev and Lewis?
This bonding moment could be a turning point for Kev, but Ruby's offer looms. Will he spoil his progress by giving in to temptation? The coming weeks promise highs and lows, with a birthday event set to bring drama. The Bartons are expected to unite, offering support amid the chaos.
