Casualty: Stevie Nash in Tears After Letter References Deceased Colleague Kim Chang
Casualty: Stevie Nash Devastated by Letter Honoring Kim Chang

Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) was left emotional after receiving a letter from the mother of a little boy whose life she saved. But it wasn’t just the kind words that led to her tears, but rather the mum’s mention of her colleague Kim Chang (Jasmine Bayes), who tragically died at the end of the last boxset.

Kim Chang’s Death and Its Aftermath

Medical resident Kim, as viewers will recall, had been taking weight-loss injections and suffered multi-organ failure in heartbreaking scenes. Her death had a devastating impact on those around her, particularly Stevie and fellow resident Matty Linlaker (Aron Julius). Stevie has also been struggling with pains and earlier this month, her prescription was unexpectedly changed to opioids. At first, she vowed to do without them – but a stressful day at the ED led her to take the drugs.

Stevie’s Medical Error

Abigail, a young girl who was rescued by Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) from the Wyvern estate explosion, was treated by Stevie, who – after the opioids took effect – administered too much morphine to the patient. Matty worked out what had transpired and confronted Stevie but he ultimately refrained from telling her what she did, instead taking the blame when confronted on it by Dylan Keogh (William Beck). But Dylan came to believe that Matty was at fault and, despite him being his son, contemplated reporting him. When he relayed the discovery to Stevie, she agreed that reporting him was the right call, unaware that she was the one to make the mistake. Matty subsequently told her of her error and, horrified, Stevie decided that she was going to own up. Unsuspecting Dylan, however, resolved to not report his son and, in light of her own discovery, Stevie kept silent.

The Letter That Broke Her

But the day in question proved difficult for her and, as her shift came to an end, she broke down reading the letter from the mother of a little boy named Oscar, who she had treated previously. ‘I thought you’d like to know he’s doing much better now’, read the letter. ‘I’ll never be able to repay you for what you did that day, especially Dr Chang. He would have died without her bravery.’ Reading the letter left Stevie devastated and thus she told Matty, who she’s been having a secret affair with, that she wanted to go home alone, instructing him to do the same. In subsequent scenes, she binned the opioids before heading home. Will Stevie open up about the impact her grief is having on her?
