10-Year-Old Boy Saves Mum's Life by Calling 999 After Stroke
Boy, 10, Calls 999 to Save Mum After Stroke

A 10-year-old boy has been praised for his quick thinking after he called 999 and saved his mother's life when she suffered a stroke. Isaiah was preparing for football practice when his mother, Sabrina, began slurring her words during a phone call with her own mother before collapsing.

Isaiah immediately dialed 999 and remained calm, providing crucial information to the call handler. Paramedics later commended him for his bravery and composure under pressure.

Isaiah's Quick Actions

Isaiah said: "I feel really proud of saving my mummy. When she stopped talking, I had to call the London Ambulance; otherwise, she would have got worse. I was very worried, and then I heard the sirens."

When paramedics arrived, Isaiah let them into the house and directed them to his mother. Sabrina described the stroke as a "complete shock to the system."

Mother's Gratitude

Sabrina said: "I was on the phone with my mum and I started slurring my words. My mum asked if I was having a stroke. Isaiah came into the bedroom – I couldn’t form words for him and fell to the floor. He started crying and called 999. I know he was overwhelmed and scared, but he handled the situation with such grace."

She added: "Having a stroke was a complete shock to the system, and it took me time to get on with my day-to-day life. I’m very proud that Isaiah has been recognised for his bravery and that he has used what I’ve taught him about calling 999 in an emergency. Parents should always teach their children how to call the ambulance service, as an emergency could happen at any time."

Recognition for Bravery

Isaiah was awarded a certificate at the London Ambulance Service’s Waterloo Headquarters to recognise his bravery. Paramedic Josh, from Bromley Ambulance Station, who was among those who responded to Sabrina, said: "Sabrina is still here smiling because of what Isaiah did."

Josh added: "He remained very calm and told us exactly what happened to his mum. He was quite overwhelmed by the sirens so we gave him some headphones so he could listen to music when we took them to hospital. We stayed with Isaiah until his father arrived. Isaiah just wanted to know that his mum was ok. Parents should teach their children how to call 999, ensure they know their address and listen to instructions given by the call handlers. They will guide your children on what they need to do in an emergency."

Understanding Strokes

A stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is interrupted, which can kill brain cells and affect bodily functions. Common symptoms include face weakness, arm weakness, and speech problems.
