Anna Faris challenges son Jack's Christian faith

Anna Faris has revealed that her 14-year-old son, Jack, whom she shares with ex-husband Chris Pratt, has asked her to accept Jesus Christ as her saviour. The 49-year-old actress, known for her role in the Scary Movie franchise, discussed the matter on Chelsea Handler's podcast Dear Chelsea, explaining that she is actively challenging his religious views.

Faris, who did not grow up with religion, said: 'He is religious. I didn't grow up with religion. He's asked me to accept Jesus Christ [as my saviour].' She added: 'And I told him I would do anything for him, including this, but it's going to take a whole lot of long conversations.'

Pushing back and provoking debates

In the interview, Faris described how she tries to challenge her son's beliefs, which she says has led to thought-provoking exchanges. She praised Jack as 'solid as a tugboat emotionally' and capable of defending his views.

'He's impressive, actually. Because I try to challenge him. I'm like: "Do you think it's a luxury that you get to be pro-life? Do you think that's kind of a luxury?" And he's like: "Maybe." Or I'll say: "What do you think of this mega pastor that's kind of a grifter?" And he's like: "Oh, mega pastors are the worst." So it's like: "Okay, he's getting there,"' she said.

Faris added that she is 'appreciative that he's examining religion the way he is in terms of recognising hypocrisy.'

Jack's early health struggles and Chris Pratt's faith

Jack was born nine weeks premature in 2012 and suffered a severe cerebral haemorrhage, a period Faris previously described as terrifying for her and Pratt. In 2014, Pratt told People that Jack's survival 'restored my faith in God', adding: 'We were scared for a long time. We prayed a lot. It restored my faith in God, not that it needed to be restored, but it really redefined it.'

Pratt has been open about his devout Christian beliefs. In a 2017 award acceptance speech, he said: 'I would not be here with the ease and grace I have in my heart without my lord and saviour, Jesus Christ. God is real. God loves you, God wants the best for you. Believe that, I do. Learn to pray. It's easy, and it is so good for your soul.'

Family dynamics and continued faith

Faris and Pratt divorced in 2018. Pratt later married Katherine Schwarzenegger, who was raised Catholic and for whom faith is an important part of her life. The couple share three children.

In 2025, Pratt told The Christian Post: 'I care enough about Jesus to take a stand, even if it costs me. It could cost me everything, but I don't care. It's worth it to me because this is what I'm called to do, it's where my heart is.'
