Two men missing in River Hull after police pursuit

A major multi-agency search is continuing in Hull after two men disappeared into the River Hull while attempting to escape from police officers.

Pursuit Ends in River Entry

The incident began at approximately 8:25pm on Friday, December 6, 2025, when Humberside Police patrol officers in Hull noticed a vehicle with a defective brake light. The driver failed to stop for police, initiating a pursuit.

The chase concluded when the car collided with a wall on Charlotte Street. Police believe the two male occupants then fled on foot towards the River Hull, entering the water just five minutes later.

Large-Scale Emergency Response

Following reports of the men entering the water, an immediate and extensive search operation was launched. The effort involves:

  • Humberside Police patrol officers and their specialist Underwater Search Team.
  • HM Coastguard.
  • Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.

Detective Inspector Andy Crawforth, who is leading the operation, stated: "We are extremely concerned for their welfare and are conducting extensive lines of enquiries in an attempt to identify and locate them."

Appeal for Public Information

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward immediately. Detective Inspector Crawforth added: "To help with these enquiries, I would ask anyone who believes they know who these men are or who thinks that someone they know went missing yesterday evening to contact us immediately."

Residents in the area have been told to expect an increased police presence over the weekend as the search continues. The identities of the two men remain unknown as emergency services work to locate them.
