Spurs striker Marmoush fined over uninsured McLaren

Omar Marmoush, Tottenham Hotspur's new striker, has been convicted and fined after failing to insure his McLaren supercar, adding to his challenging start at the club. The 27-year-old, who has yet to score since joining on loan from Manchester City, was prosecuted by the DVLA over the unpaid bill on his sports car.

Court papers show Marmoush was issued a fixed penalty fine on June 17 when officials noticed that the McLaren 720S, worth an estimated £250,000, had not been insured or declared off the road. When he did not pay the fine to settle the matter out of court, the DVLA brought a full criminal prosecution against him.

Court hearing and penalty details

At a hearing at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on October 5, Marmoush was found guilty and fined £220, with an order to also pay £100 costs and an £88 victim surcharge. Documents show that the DVLA attempted to contact Marmoush at the luxury apartment in Manchester city centre where he had been living before the switch to London.

Marmoush was prosecuted through the Single Justice Procedure, a fast-track court process which deals with criminal cases behind closed doors. He did not enter a plea to the charge or respond to the papers sent to him by the DVLA.

Background and transfer details

His loan to Spurs, which comes with an obligation to buy him for £60 million at the end of the season, was announced at the end of August. He was part of Egypt’s World Cup squad this summer, and scored 10 goals for Manchester City after joining in January 2025.

Marmoush came on as a second-half substitute for Spurs in their 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Saturday (October 10). The conviction adds to a difficult period for the striker, who has yet to find the net for his new club.

The fine and associated costs total £408, which Marmoush must pay following the court's decision. The case was brought by the DVLA, which had issued the initial fixed penalty notice in June.
