Police smash BMW to arrest London men with swords, loaded gun

Police have released footage showing the moment officers smashed their way into a BMW to arrest four men from London after a construction worker was badly beaten with metal poles. The attack left the victim with two broken legs, a broken arm, and requiring surgery.

The incident took place on September 12 last year, when the construction worker was assaulted by a gang who then fled in a white BMW. Armed officers stopped the vehicle three days later as it travelled into Wolverhampton from London.

Armed Officers Smash Windows to Arrest Suspects

In the video, multiple officers can be seen smashing the windows of the BMW and ordering the men inside to leave the vehicle. The officers shouted, “Get out of the car now!” before using batons to break through the driver and passenger seat windows.

The driver stepped out, but the passenger was dragged out onto the roadside. Bodycam footage then shows an officer discovering a gun in the footwell of the passenger seat. The handgun was loaded with 11 rounds, and police also found swords in the back of the car.

Weapons Recovered and Sentences Handed Down

The men were handcuffed and made to lie on the ground by the side of the road. Following the arrests, the suspects faced charges related to the weapons. At Wolverhampton Crown Court on July 9, Gurwinder Singh, 25, of Ealing, London, admitted possession of a firearm, ammunition, and five swords, and was jailed for five years and 11 months.

Harpandeep Singh, 23, of Hackney, London, was jailed for seven years after being found guilty of the firearm and ammunition charges, and admitting possession of the swords. Harshehajdeep Singh, 21, of Ealing, London, was jailed for six years and eight months after being found guilty of possession of the firearm, ammunition, and swords.

Major Crime Unit Praises Investigation

Zorawar Singh, 31, of no fixed address, was jailed for six years and two months after admitting possession of a firearm, ammunition, and five swords. DC Kyle Bowering, from the Major Crime Unit, said: “This investigation has led to the recovery of a loaded gun, as well as swords, which would no doubt have gone on to be used in crime to harm and threaten others.”

He added: “These weapons have now been taken off the streets, and those caught with them have been put behind bars for a number of years.” The convictions mean the four men are now serving combined prison sentences of more than 25 years, and the weapons have been removed from potential use in further crimes.
