A 68-year-old man has died following a collision with a van in Southall, with a 22-year-old man arrested at the scene. The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 22, at approximately 1:38pm in Emerald Square.
Emergency services respond to fatal collision
Police officers, along with the London Ambulance Service and the fire brigade, were dispatched to Emerald Square after receiving reports of a collision. Upon arrival, they found the 68-year-old man suffering from injuries. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst disqualified. He has since been released on bail pending further investigation.
Police appeal for witnesses and footage
Detective Inspector Fiaz Janjua, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, expressed condolences and appealed for information. “This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life,” he said. “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family and loved ones as they come to terms with this devastating loss.”
Janjua added: “While we have already made one arrest in connection with this incident, we are now working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. I would also urge anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have captured footage on CCTV, dashcam, mobile phone or doorbell cameras, to contact police as this information could prove vital to our investigation.”
Investigation ongoing, family supported
A crime scene was established on Tuesday while officers carried out their investigations. The 68-year-old man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. Police continue to appeal for any witnesses or those with relevant footage to come forward as the investigation into the full circumstances of the collision continues.
